I concur with all of your observations. However, people leave even the 'best' guilds for one reason or another.
So seriously, exactly how do you leave a guild in this game?

For some people, all they want to do is get online for a couple hours a day for a few days a week and play with a bunch of people they are comfortable playing with. Not everyone is insanely committed to doing all the things you think a 'REAL' guild should do. Most people that join a guild are just looking for a people to have fun with and to help them be better. Now, for you and few other 'interesting' people out there (same people that go to Star Trek conventions) that's your idea of fun and it's ok. In the end, a truely successful guild is one where everyones' expectations of the guild are similar. So maybe what you should of said was, "This is what serious hardcore gamers into serious hardcore guilds should do before joining." Basically, find what works for you at your level and then stick with it.

I joined a guild by talking to a leader a lot in my pvp battles. He seemed really nice and I asked him if he wanted me to join his guild.. He said yes. After that, I was amazed at how good the system is in this game. I get to see who in my guild is on and how long it had been since they last logged on, I could talk to anyone in my guild... The great thing about this system is, guilds don't really need websites. My guild has about 30 people and we have done 2 quests together. I think it is a really fun part of this game and shouldn't be missed. And also, this game has been out for what? 4 days? Give it time.. Guilds will become more organized..
Btw I got a question.. Where do you go to pvp vs another guild?

I think the statement about a website is a little unfair. Not EVERY credible guild has one. Especially those that are just starting out, they might be just as good as any other 'credible gaming guild' but only with a few members to start, and only a few areas online, like a forum, to meet up and such.
I know that my own guild, if we ever manage to get any new members, will sort of try and help lower level members to get what they need to survive in the PvE world, then later once we get a few good groups, we'll give our hand at PvP for fun, tourneys, etc.
We're pretty simple, a little picky, but simple. We won't just take anyone who asks, we like to get to know people a little before we take them, which I think is a good thing, saves you the trouble of kicking someone out of a guild if they just aren't working out.
We just want to find people who can work together as a group, follow some form of orders or suggestions. [Not people who will run off unecessarily and get into a fight they cannot win, or without thinking a move over a little first], and we're hoping to find a few who'll be willing to get onto our teamspeak server, because it makes things ALOT easier when you're in a bind or in the middle of a fight to get help.
If I had to make a suggestion to 'newbies' or the like, if you're really intent on joining a guild, give a few different ones a lookie-loo to see which one might fit your style best, PvE/PvP/RP or other things.
Ok, well I'm done babbling on in this topic... o.o;

It seems my post is even more poignant in light of the fact players appears to have difficulty "quitting" a GW guild ... I have not explored the guild process in GW yet but I have heard several shouts in game by players asking how to quit and now I see it mentioned here in this post.
Have the Dev's overlooked a guild "quit" option? If this is the case I am sure it will be eventually rectified because it is not fair to "Lock" players into a guild they no longer wish to be a part of, nor is it practical to have to wait for a guild leader to remove you.

People only need to click the little icon next to their name in the Guild list and select the option to Leave.

No need to start acting like this is the VN boards; he was just trying to be helpful. Good post with some good pointers. No need to flame if you disagree with parts of the original post, just explain your opinion and give alternate examples.
